This non-problem refuses to go away.
Information technology'due south explained in somewhat technical linguistic communication by Microsoft here: You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders ... That commodity was written for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows seven, but it still applies in Windows 10. Hither'southward an extract:
"Different the Read-merely attribute for a file, the Read-only attribute for a binder is typically ignored by Windows, Windows components and accessories, and other programs. For example, you can delete, rename, and change a binder with the Read-only aspect by using Windows Explorer.
The Read-only and System attributes is merely used by Windows Explorer to determine whether the folder is a special folder, such every bit a system binder that has its view customized by Windows (for example, My Documents, Favorites, Fonts, Downloaded Plan Files), or a folder that y'all customized by using the Customize tab of the folder'southward Properties dialog box."

First how I became aware. When exiting MS Money I write a backup to another device. I have the parameters set to proceed the concluding iii backup files. The procedure writes a new file and deletes the oldest.
When I exited MS Coin there was a vague error bulletin explaining why information technology failed. I knew at that place was plenty disk space, that the file name was valid, etc. One other pick was Read Merely. After checking I saw the Read Only checkbox was checked. So I unchecked it. I tried once again to backup my MS Coin file. The Read Only switch was again fix.
I know I did not set the switch.

Thanks for the link. However, I am non sure what to exercise. As you tin can see there isn't a Change Permissions option. Plus it appears that at that place shouldn't be a problem with permissions. I set this computer, and am the merely user.
Any suggestions about how to proceed?

You didn't "see it checked", y'all saw a black foursquare. Every binder on every windows arrangement in the world will desplay a blackness square in that checkbox when the Backdrop dialog is displayed. If you create a new folder & view its Properties, you'll see that blackness square. It just means "When yous click OK or Utilize, the ReadOnly status of the files inside will exist unchanged."
Accept you check the country of Controlled binder access? If it's on, try turning information technology off.

Thank you to everyone for your assistance. The problem does seem to exist resolved though I have no thought why. All my folders have the square black mark in the box. I was not able to repeat the fault using the same plan and settings.
One affair that is different. The fault occurred on OneDrive. I accept moved the folder and files to an external hard bulldoze. Before the trouble this past weekend I have been using the mapped OneDrive as a destination for specific backups for months without a problem.

All my OneDrive files have that black square and I have no problems with updating files in OneDrive. Obviously the black square doesn't mean that I can't write to files. So your problem was something else.
